Dr. Sam’s education is extensive. It
began in 1979 with an Associates degree in Biochemistry/Physics from
Aquinas College. In 1984 he went on to get his Bachelors degree in
Biology/Chemistry from Regis University. Dr. Sam received his
Masters degree in Environmental Planning/Environmental Science from
the University of Colorado in 1986. His Masters Thesis was
“Development of Land Uses around Hazardous Waste Sites.” He studied
at the University of Kansas-Lawrence earning his PhD Doctorate in
Geography/Environmental. His Dissertation was the Quantitative and
Qualitative Analysis of Indoor Air Pollution in Residential
Communities in Developing Countries: Field Survey & Analysis with
the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area, Ghana, West Africa: “Does
Socio-Economic and Land Use Design, Domestic Time & Activities
Patterns Determines Degree of Indoor Air Pollutants.”
Dr. Sam’s professional background is
as extensive as his education. He was a professor of
Environmental Studies at the University of Kansas-Lawrence as well
as Director, Regional & International Center for Environment at the
University of Kansas-Lawrence. He served as Senior Environmental
Scientist: US Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Sam served as
Environmental Advisor, USAID, African Bureau Office of Sustainable
Development, Senior Environmental Scientist, USEPA Region VII;
Compliance and Enforcement, Senior Environmental Advisor, USAID,
Africa Bureau Division, Washington D.C., Environmental Scientist for
the USEPA Region 6 Superfund Program and RCRA Enforcement & State
Programs. Dr. Sam was a City Planner for the City of Commerce City,
Colorado and the City of Lakewood, Colorado. He also worked 10
years as an independent environmental management consultant for
international agencies, African countries and non-profit
organizations.
An example of Dr. Sam’s contribution
to research and projects include Abbey’s Grove Sustainable
Energy-Efficient Residential Housing Pilot Project with the goal of
establishing a research and demonstration of energy efficient
building construction materials and development of ecological
sustainable livable residential community within the urban/rural
agricultural community of Topeka, KS.
He additionally worked on a Proposal for
Community Based Environmental Protection: Partnerships for
Technical Assistance for Community Based Environmental Protection,
Education and Sustainable Development in the Metropolitan Kansas
City Region.
