In the past 50 years, James E. Taylor
has provided a variety of professional services including Standard
Architectural Services, Feasibility Studies, Interior Space Planning
and Design, Urban Planning, Construction and Project Management
Services, Expert Witness for Litigation in the Circuit and Federal
Court Systems, Historic Facility Renovation and Financial
Evaluation, and American Disability Act Programming and Seminars.
Mr. Taylor began as a staff architect with the
Third Army Special Services, responsible for over twenty Military
Recreational facilities on eight Army Posts throughout southeast
areas of the U.S. Upon his discharge he was employed by the firm of Kivett, Myers, and McCallum Architects/Engineers (i.e., presently
HNTB), where he served as project architect. In 1960, Mr. Taylor
joined the architectural firm of Edward W. Tanner and Associates,
where he served as an Associate until 1967. During this period, Mr.
Taylor was responsible for various architectural designs for J.C.
Nichols Company, including various shopping centers in the Kansas
City Metro area, apartment complexes, office buildings and
industrial facilities. Additionally, he was the Project Architect
and Construction Administrator for various Shawnee Mission School
District projects, Nallwood Junior High, South High School, as well
as the original campus and building for Missouri Southern
University. This firm was also responsible for the architectural
design of various renovation projects, both commercial and
residential for the Country Club Plaza, retail stores, high-rise and
garden-type apartment complexes and collegiate facilities.
In 1967, Mr. Taylor resigned from the
Tanner Firm to form The James E. Taylor & Associates, Inc. which has
provided Architectural, Construction and Project Management services
for their clients for the past thirty-eight years. These services
provide exceptional building design input, construction budgeting
and cost control. This has been exemplified by projects such as
Halls Plaza Department Store, Starlight Amphitheater, Milgram's Food
Company, Dick Smith Ford, Southeastern Public Service, Western
Resources, Hallmark Cards, State of Missouri and other commercial
and institutional construction projects. The Construction
Management services along with Real Estate related services are now
being provided through JET & Associates, L.L.C.
JET & Associates, L.L.C., a WBE firm,
has a contract staff of construction specialist together with
registered Architects and Engineers, i.e. James E. Taylor Design
Group, P.C.'s staff, who by their experience in Building Design and
Construction Methods and Means can clearly communicate with the
owner's Architects and Engineers for most projects. Their
professional knowledge and experience can aid the Design Firm during
the preparation of Schematic Designs through the Contract Document
Phase by projecting cost of construction, value engineering
evaluation, site construction strategy, schedules of tasks and
events, etc.
Mr. Taylor has served as a Member and
Chairman for the Board of Zoning Adjustment for the City of Kansas
City, Missouri, President of Verona Hill Subdivision Homes
Association, Chairman of the Red Bridge Planning Committee.
Recently, he has served on the Public Works Board, Parks and
Recreation Committee, Planning Commission for the City of Leawood,
Kansas as well as the Blue Valley Parks and Recreation Facilities
Committee. He has served multiple elected terms to the Leawood
City Council.
